Video Assist

Directors of films need to be positioned very closely to the cameras in order to anticipate the suitability and quality of footage being shot. However in many scenes this is simply not possible, either because there is action and movement or because there are a number of cameras widely spaced to cover different angles.

In these cases video assist equipment may be used to bring a TV picture of the film cameras point of view to the director. This can be done with cables but often it is not practical, cables get in the way and can not be used on mobile cameras without causing more problems.

Wireless video camera systems therefore have been used for a few years, but the older analogue type equipment has limitations, in that they really only work well in line of sight applications and they require people to point directional radio antennas in order to get the best results.

The XPe Digital Wireless Camera System

Link's XPe system uses modern video and audio encoding techniques to convert PAL or NTSC signals into a format that can be transmitted using a digitally modulated radio link.

The digital modulation technique allows the system to work in non line of sight environments and without the need for pointing transmit or receive antennas.

In built up areas ranges over 100M are easily achieved and much greater distances can be covered in more open environments. Even high speed movement can be accommodated, so action sequences can be followed seamlessly.

The list below is by no means complete, but it gives an idea of the type of applications the XPe system can be used for.
