Global Television subjected a Link transmitter to 4G force and weightlessness on "Superman's Escape", a new Roller Coaster ride on the Queensland Gold Coast and held onto live pictures as through a tunnel. It was all in the course of a day's work for the Australian variety show, Rove Live.

Rove Live sent two unfortunate comedians repeatedly on the ride for the duration of the 100 minute show, giving them hot dogs and milk shakes between rides.  We're pleased to say that the transmitter took this treatment much better than the passengers' stomachs...

Global fitted a High Definition miniature camera to the ride, facing the occupants of the front row to get live pictures for the entire run. The camera was a Sony FCB-H10 packaged by Camera corps, hired for the event. The Link equipment was strategically located behind (!) the occupants, encased in a wooden box.

United Group in New South Wales, which is Link's distributor for Australia, supplied the Link transmitters.

Global used a Link transmitter with LMS-T 20MHz with QPSK and there wasn't even a hint of link break-up in the resulting pictures. The area of greatest concern was the 20% or so of the ride that ran through the building in tunnels, and the point during the launch where the ride experiences 4.2G acceleration.

"We had tremendous success", says Buddhi Fonseka, Senior Technician at Global.  "Now I know how good LMS-T can be! The entire production team was stunned by the quality of the pictures they were seeing. It has set a new benchmark for us in on-board cameras! I expect to be asked to do a few more such events after that result.
