Link Research Limited was founded by David and Len Mann beginning full time operation in September 1992. Drawing on their experience of running successful manufacturing companies, including Link Electronics, Vinten Broadcast and Cabletime, their aim was to build a new company in the field of professional television.
The early years saw the development of SRC4 satellite receiver control software and the distribution and support of third party products. In 2001 Link started a major initiative to develop professional DVB/MPEG encoders and associated products. Leading edge products were developed quickly by Link's Research and Development team. The first new products, launched at IBC 2001, started shipping in October 2001 and became a major part of Link`s activities in 2002. Both Link`s Encoder/Modulators and the Wireless Camera Systems have become market leading products. A third director and shareholder, Roger Davies, joined Link in 2001 as part of this expansion program.
The major departments at Link are Sales, Research and Development, Service and Support, Production, Systems and Administration. All areas are essential to our operation but Research and Development is key, with one third of our staff dedicated to R&D. We also place great emphasis on our Customer Support and Service functions.
Link markets its products to the television broadcasters worldwide through its distribution network in every continent.
In February 2005 Link joined the Vislink PLC group. Vislink is one of Link's biggest customers for OEM encoder boards. In addition Link's wireless camera systems have added a key product range for the group.
On the 31st December 2006 Len Mann stood down as Managing Director of Link Research Ltd, in the culmination of management changes planned since the sale of Link to Vislink PLC by Len and David Mann in February 2005.
Len will now focus on his role on the board of Vislink and his role as Vislink's Chief Technical Officer. David continues to work for Link, designing antennas and providing technical consultancy and support.
John Mulcahy has taken on the role of Managing Director. In addition Julie Vincent will join the board as Commercial Director and Dave Remnant as Sales Director. The three new executive directors join Roger Davies on Link's board.
With emphasis on Research and Development the future looks very bright with our new High Definition wireless camera systems and other products. The aim is to continue our steady growth in the exciting world of professional digital television.
